
Würth Elektronik has introduced the WL-OCHS series of high-speed optocouplers, designed for digital signal transmission between galvanically isolated sections of electronic systems.
The new components support data rates from 1 MBd to 10 MBd and provide isolation voltages of up to 5000 VRMS. They are intended for applications where reliable communication must be maintained across electrically separated circuits, including environments exposed to significant electromagnetic interference.
Optocouplers provide galvanic isolation between different voltage domains while allowing digital signals to pass between them. In the WL-OCHS series, switching times of approximately 100 ns to 1500 ns enable lower signal delays compared with conventional optocouplers.
The components also feature high common-mode transient immunity, or CMTI. This helps maintain signal integrity during rapid voltage changes between input and output sections, an important requirement in electrically noisy control and power-electronic environments.
A copper leadframe is used to improve resistance to corrosion and environmental influences, supporting greater robustness in demanding operating conditions.
The WL-OCHS series can be used with microcontrollers, FPGAs and digital signal processors, as well as communication interfaces including UART, SPI, RS-232 and RS-485.
Potential applications include measurement and control equipment, industrial electronics, automation systems and other architectures requiring fast communication combined with electrical isolation.
For vehicle and mobility applications, the technology is relevant to electronic systems where signal integrity, galvanic isolation and resistance to electromagnetic interference are important design requirements, particularly as electrical and electronic architectures continue to become more complex.
