The system uses an integrated roof mounted architecture intended to reduce the amount of equipment installed inside the passenger cabin while simplifying installation and maintenance compared with split system configurations.
The application also highlights several engineering requirements that differ from conventional road vehicle HVAC systems, particularly exposure to persistent humidity, water spray and corrosive operating conditions.
For inland passenger vessels, HVAC equipment must operate in environments with high humidity, elevated temperatures and continuous exposure to moisture.
TCHAIN states that the system uses a sealed enclosure and corrosion protection on key components to improve resistance to water ingress, dust and environmental exposure.
These measures are intended to support long term operation in applications where HVAC equipment is installed directly on the vessel roof and remains exposed to external conditions.
The system uses a monobloc roof mounted configuration, integrating the main HVAC components into a single unit.
This layout can reduce the amount of equipment and piping required inside the passenger area and may simplify installation compared with split systems.
For passenger transport applications, roof mounted packaging can also help preserve interior space for seating and circulation.

The unit combines a compressor with an integrated air distribution system designed to provide cooling across the passenger cabin.
According to TCHAIN, the system is intended to maintain cooling performance under high ambient temperatures and humid operating conditions.
The company also offers different electrical configurations to support the power systems used across inland passenger ferries, sightseeing vessels and other small passenger craft.

Although developed for marine applications, the system uses several engineering principles also found in bus and commercial vehicle HVAC, including compact roof mounted packaging, environmental protection, thermal management and configurable electrical integration.
The application provides an example of how HVAC technologies developed for passenger vehicles can be adapted to transport environments with different installation and durability requirements.
TCHAIN states that the units are produced under an IATF 16949 certified quality management system and are tested for performance, high temperature operation and water resistance before delivery.
