
aTCHAIN has outlined the internal structure of its TCD08D electric bus air conditioner, a roof mounted HVAC unit developed for 8 to 8.5 metre electric buses.
The system is designed for electric city buses, tourist coaches, school buses and other 8 metre class new energy vehicles requiring compact thermal management, stable cooling performance and reduced power consumption.
The TCD08D is built around six main internal assemblies: a hermetic DC scroll compressor, condenser and evaporator heat exchangers, dual centrifugal blower groups, an intelligent ECU control module, refrigerant pipelines with valve assemblies, and auxiliary components including a drier filter and liquid accumulator.
The compressor is designed for high voltage DC electric bus applications within a 420V to 720V operating range. According to TCHAIN, the sealed scroll structure is intended to reduce vibration compared with traditional compressor designs, while integrated protection functions monitor over voltage, under voltage and overload conditions.
aThe condenser and evaporator are positioned within a compact roof mounted layout. The heat exchanger group uses aluminum fins and copper tubes, with the condenser releasing heat to the outside air and the evaporator absorbing heat from the passenger cabin airflow. The layout is intended to reduce refrigerant pipeline length and support system reliability.
For cabin air distribution, the unit uses two groups of three stage centrifugal blowers with a rated airflow of 3,600 m³/h. The blowers are controlled by the ECU, allowing airflow adjustment according to cabin temperature and operating demand.
aThe ECU functions as the central control module of the system, connecting the compressor, blowers, electronic valves and vehicle CAN bus. Its functions include temperature control, operating data monitoring, fault diagnosis and mode switching between cooling, heating and heat pump operation.
The refrigerant circuit includes copper pipelines, expansion valves, solenoid valves and pressure sensors. These components regulate refrigerant flow, support mode switching and provide pressure feedback to the ECU for operational protection. The system also includes a drier filter and liquid accumulator to help remove moisture and impurities, manage liquid refrigerant and protect the compressor from liquid slugging.
aTCHAIN also highlights modular serviceability, with core assemblies designed for individual replacement during maintenance. The company states that the unit uses a lightweight internal structure, IP67 rated electrical components and optimized airflow paths to support durability and energy efficiency in electric bus operation.
