New Flyer, a subsidiary of NFI Group, reinforces its commitment to sustainability by ordering 200 fuel cell engines from Ballard Power Systems, doubling its previous purchase. This second order under a long-term agreement represents a total power of 20 MW and will be used in the next-generation Xcelsior CHARGE FC hydrogen buses, with delivery scheduled for 2025.
With this investment, the buses will be deployed in the United States, strengthening its transition to zero-emission fleets. This effort is supported by a $15 million investment from the Government of Canada to expand New Flyer's production capacity to 240 units per year by 2027.
David White of NFI and David Mucciacciaro of Ballard highlighted the benefits of hydrogen buses, such as long range and fast refueling, reaffirming their shared vision of more sustainable transportation.
