The words used in the UN ECE R107 regulation - Technical Requirements for Emergency Windows - were carefully chosen and have important meaning:

Emergency windows and breakable escape hatches are systems comprising of components standardised by UN ECE R43 and tested using ISO 3537. The regulated components consist of readily breakable safety glass, a device and its operating instructions. Collectively these components must ensure that the emergency exit will function – guaranteed with certainty - when needed in an emergency, and operate, without discrimination.
