bp pulse and Ekoenergetyka have announced a strategic collaboration to solve one of the key challenges of electrifying heavy commercial vehicles: ensuring scalable and efficient overnight charging solutions. This alliance seeks to offer seamless operations to fleet operators and respond to the growing demand for infrastructure in heavy transport, a crucial sector to achieve the objectives of the European Green Deal.
Transport accounts for 25% of greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union. The electrification of heavy trucks is not only essential to reduce emissions, but significant growth in sales of electric trucks is also expected, reaching a fleet of 3.5 million by 2030. However, current public infrastructure is limited. In this context, the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) requires that, by 2030, member countries install fast-charging points every 60 km on major corridors.
Three charging scenarios for electric trucks
Ekoenergetyka and bp pulse structure their charging solutions in three key scenarios:
Highway charging:
Adapted to 30-45 minute breaks, this scenario requires in the future charging centres of more than 1 megawatt (MCS) to ensure efficiency on long journeys.
Night charging:
The most frequent, with lower powers of 50-150 kW, allowing vehicles to be charged in 6-8 hours in depots or public stops.
Ekoenergetyka, a benchmark in charging solutions
A tangible example of this experience is the network of 1,100 chargers implemented by Ekoenergetyka for RATP in Paris, designed to support the expansion of its fleet of electric buses. The infrastructure includes automated roof retractor systems that optimize space and ensure efficient charging without overloading the urban electricity grid.
Ekoenergetyka's expansion is supported by the Enterprise Investors fund, which acquired a significant stake and announced an investment of €45 million to develop electric mobility projects.
