DAF Components will present its successful mild-hybrid solution for buses and coaches at Busworld 2025 in Hall 6, booth 619. The new PACCAR MX-11 and MX-13 engine series for buses and coaches will also be on display. DAF Components is a leading independent supplier of components such as engines, axles, and cabs.
The mild-hybrid solution, which DAF Components will present at Busworld 2025, is developed in collaboration with Voith and has already been successfully implemented in 110 city buses for Rome's public transport system. The drivetrain consists of an advanced PACCAR MX engine and a robust mild-hybrid gearbox with an electric motor. The mild-hybrid solution increases fuel efficiency by up to 15 percent, thanks in part to a Start-Stop system. The PACCAR MX-11 (with ratings ranging from 220 kW/299 hp to 330 kW/449 hp) and PACCAR MX-13 (315 kW/428 hp to 390 kW/530 hp) engines offer low fuel consumption, long maintenance intervals, maximum comfort, and excellent driving characteristics thanks to high torque at low revs. These powerplants are based on the efficient engines DAF developed for the New Generation DAF trucks. For even lower CO2 emissions, the MX-11 and MX-13 engines can also run on HVO biodiesel. PACCAR engines for coaches and buses feature a range of innovations that increase efficiency. For example, engine combustion has been optimized through the use of a redesigned cylinder head and engine block, pistons, and cylinder liners. Furthermore, the latest generation of turbochargers are being used, and the air compressors, alternators, and oil pumps, among other things, have been redesigned to minimize parasitic losses. DAF claims that the new PACCAR MX-11 and MX-13 engines are extremely quiet and vibration-free. Maximum torque is available at just 900 rpm, contributing to comfort for both passengers and the driver. The engine brake delivers high torque at very low rpm. For maximum uptime, the engines require only one cycle. A prototype of a hydrogen combustion engine, which DAF is currently evaluating, will also be on display at the DAF Components stand in Hall 6. An electric axle for future electric drivetrains will also be presented. Alfred Beuwer, director of DAF Components, notes that coach and bus operators are increasingly interested in alternative drivetrains. "Regardless of how the future of coach and bus transport develops, DAF Components remains committed to offering every customer an optimal, tailor-made drivetrain solution."
