ComfortDelGro Australia (CDC) has partnered with fleet electrification specialist Zenobē to transform its Truganina depot into a fully electric bus facility, with charging infrastructure designed to support more than 130 electric buses.
The project is part of CDC Victoria's delivery of the Victorian Government's Metropolitan Zero Emission Bus (ZEB) Franchises, following the award of three franchises to the operator in 2024.
Once completed, Truganina is expected to become the largest electric bus depot in Melbourne's western region, supporting the introduction of electric bus services across the area's growing public transport network.
Zenobē will design and install the depot's charging infrastructure, including:
The infrastructure has been planned around CDC's current and future operational requirements, ensuring that charging capacity can support the progressive introduction of zero-emission vehicles.
The partnership extends an existing relationship between Zenobē and CDC's sister company, Metroline, in the United Kingdom.
Zenobē has already delivered more than 450 charging points across five Metroline depots in London, with further expansion planned for 2027.
The Melbourne project will apply this experience to Australia's public transport sector, where large-scale depot electrification requires coordination between charging infrastructure, grid capacity and daily fleet operations.
The Truganina depot conversion forms part of Victoria's broader strategy to transition its public bus fleet to zero-emission vehicles by 2035.
CDC Victoria has also expanded services across Melbourne's western corridor under its new metropolitan franchises, adding 470 weekly trips across routes 170, 180, 190 and 192.
The new charging infrastructure will support the introduction of electric buses in this region, contributing to the gradual replacement of conventional vehicles.
For bus operators, the project highlights the importance of integrating charging infrastructure planning with fleet deployment strategies, particularly when preparing depots for large-scale electrification.
