
Würth Elektronik ICS has introduced a new family of DC/DC converters for mobile machinery and commercial vehicles. The modules are designed to support stable and efficient voltage conversion in vehicle architectures using multiple onboard voltage levels.
Modern buses and commercial vehicles increasingly combine control units, sensors, displays, communication systems and other electronic equipment operating at different voltages. Voltage instability can lead to sensor errors, display interruptions, control-unit resets and starting problems.
The new converters are intended to provide reliable voltage adaptation between battery and onboard electrical systems, including 24 V and 12 V networks.
The converters are encapsulated and carry an IP67 protection rating. They are designed for applications involving vibration and operating temperatures of up to 85 °C.

The standard modules are designed as 24 V to 12 V buck converters using switch-mode technology.
Depending on the version, the input voltage range starts at either 16 V or 18 V and extends to 32 V DC. Available nominal output currents are:
The 25 A and 40 A versions are designed as standalone modules. The 2 A variant uses a relay-style format for direct mounting on printed circuit boards.
Würth Elektronik ICS also offers customised converter designs for applications with specific voltage, current, installation or control requirements.
In addition to buck converters, the company can develop boost and flyback configurations. This allows the modules to be adapted to different onboard power architectures and vehicle functions.
According to Daniel Wilder, Product Manager for DC/DC converters, the company developed the range to address the varying electrical requirements of different machines and vehicles.
In bus applications, DC/DC converters can be used to supply lower-voltage components from a 24 V onboard network.
