Product description

Two separate systems are at work in the front wheels of a vehicle — not only do they need to support the suspension system, but they steer the vehicle too.

Key components in this complex mechanism are the ball joints, which act as the pivot point between a vehicle's wheels and the axle. They allow for smooth movement and help maintain vehicle stability, especially while cornering.

Ball joints play a critical role in both the steering and suspension systems of a vehicle. Each ball joint consists of a metal ball at the end of a rod, housed in a greased socket. These spherical bearings connect the control arms to the steering knuckles, allowing smooth movement.

Enclosed in protective boots to keep debris out, ball joints ensure optimal performance by acting as the pivot point between the axle and the wheel. This pivot is essential for maintaining control and ensuring smooth operation of the vehicle.

This design allows for controlled movement in multiple directions, enabling the vehicle's wheels to steer and adapt to road conditions.

Pailton Engineering’s ball joints are versatile and suitable for various types of vehicles. They can be used in:

  • Tie rod ends: Small ball joints at the end of a track rod, connecting the steering arms of the vehicle's wheels. Typically, vehicles have inner and outer tie rod ends that work together to maintain proper alignment and responsive steering.
  • Upper and lower control arms: Connecting the suspension to the frame.
  • Track rods: Essential for maintaining proper wheel alignment and steering response.

We prioritise quality by using forged steel and high-grade alloys in our ball joints. This ensures durability and longevity, even under demanding driving conditions. The solid construction of our ball joints provides superior strength compared to hollow alternatives, making them a reliable choice for heavy vehicles.

Protective boots, which shield the ball joints from contaminants, play a key role in maintaining their longevity. Although rare, boots can become compromised due to wear and tear. If damage occurs, it may allow grease to escape and moisture to enter, which could lead to corrosion and reduce the ball joint's effectiveness over time. This, in turn, may result in some play in the joint. Our boots are designed to provide superior performance and extend service life.
