Würth Elektronik has expanded its mains input component portfolio with a new series of WCAP FTY2 film capacitors designed for electromagnetic interference suppression. The components comply with X1 or Y2 safety classes according to IEC 60384 14, with certification confirming suitability for safety relevant noise suppression applications.

In bus electrification and modern onboard power architectures, EMI suppression is critical for reliable operation of power electronics and for reducing conducted noise on mains connected systems. Typical bus relevant touchpoints include onboard chargers, depot charging equipment, DC DC converters, traction inverters, and motor drive subsystems that depend on stable filtering at the mains input stage.
The series supports two common safety capacitor placements used in mains filtering:
• X1, installed between phase and neutral
• Y2, installed between phase and protective earth or neutral and protective earth
This enables engineers to select the appropriate safety class for interference suppression and insulation requirements in power conversion and control systems used in bus environments.
As metallized film capacitors, the components are designed to be self healing, which improves fail safe behaviour in demanding electrical systems. For bus OEMs and tier suppliers, this matters because power electronics are exposed to thermal cycling, vibration, and long operating hours, where stable EMI performance and robustness are baseline expectations.
Würth Elektronik is also supporting design in workflows through sampling and selection tools, including measured impedance curve data via an online platform and a design kit to accelerate component choice and integration.
