NSK-Warner has developed a new Electrical Bypass Plate that delivers world-class levels of electrical conductivity and space efficiency for electric drive units such as e-Axles. The solution addresses two key issues in high-voltage electric powertrains — bearing electrical corrosion and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) — both critical for ensuring durability and reliability in electric buses and commercial vehicles.

The plate employs electrically conductive paper and a spring-pressed design that allows stable surface-to-surface contact between the bearing’s inner ring and the housing. This enables compact integration within limited axial space, requiring only 0.3 mm, less than one-tenth that of comparable conductive rings. According to NSK-Warner, the component also achieves over 10 times the conductivity of existing solutions.

For bus OEMs and e-Axle system suppliers, this design offers improved electrical protection, reduced noise and vibration, and greater design flexibility for compact, efficient drivetrains. Scheduled for market launch in 2026, the Electrical Bypass Plate supports the growing need for high-voltage, lightweight EV architectures and ensures stable performance in harsh operating environments typical of fleet and passenger transport.
