Lubrizol has introduced a new LED reactor technology at its manufacturing facility in Louisville, Kentucky, marking a significant development in the production of CPVC (chlorinated polyvinyl chloride) resins. The innovation is designed to improve resin stability, production efficiency, and sustainability while supporting higher operational flexibility.

Thermal stability is a critical parameter in CPVC manufacturing, particularly as industry requirements for material performance continue to increase. The new LED chlorination process enhances the stability of CPVC resins while improving energy efficiency during production. According to the company, the technology allows for longer production cycles, reduced downtime, and greater flexibility in resin formulations.

The LED-based process also contributes to improved color performance in CPVC materials, an important factor for applications where material appearance and consistency are required. By enabling more stable and controlled chlorination, the system supports both quality improvements and operational efficiency.

The Louisville installation represents Lubrizol’s first implementation of LED chlorination technology in CPVC production. The company plans to use the facility as a foundation for potential expansion of the technology across its global manufacturing network.

Lubrizol expects the process improvements to support growing demand for high-performance CPVC materials across various industrial applications. The ability to switch production priorities between higher output and enhanced resin stability provides manufacturers with greater adaptability as market requirements evolve.

Headquartered in the United States, Lubrizol is a specialty chemicals company and part of Berkshire Hathaway. The company operates more than 100 manufacturing facilities and technical centers worldwide, focusing on advanced materials and chemistry solutions that support mobility, infrastructure, and industrial applications.
